The Colorful World of Clara
During morning recess, while other children ran across the sunny blacktop playing tag, Clara sat quietly with her sketchbook under the broad courtyard oak. With a small tin of watercolors and a cup of well water, her horsehair brush moved across the paper, capturing things the rest of the school hurried past.
Where others saw only dry brown weeds and cracked gray stones, Clara painted iridescent emerald beetles wearing dewdrop crowns, swirling violet shadows under the wooden swings, and miniature moss kingdoms thriving in the damp brick crevices along the garden wall.

On Friday afternoon, Clara pinned her finished watercolor sheets along the wooden courtyard fence. Max stopped mid-stride, his soccer ball rolling loose across the grass. 'Are those the shiny green beetles from behind the tool shed?' he asked, leaning in close to study the paper.
Other classmates soon gathered along the fence line, pointing out the vivid moss castles, sun-dappled branches, and hidden caterpillars. Clara dipped her brush in clean water, showing them where the blue and yellow pigments blended together.

Max and Lily knelt in the cool clover beside her, looking closely at the gnarled oak roots. 'How did you notice all these little details hiding in the yard?' Lily asked, gently touching the edge of the beetle sketches.
Clara handed them spare wooden brushes and opened her paint tin so they could share the pigments. Soon, four children sat shoulder to shoulder beneath the oak branches, mixing colors and sketching the hidden world living quietly in the school courtyard.
