The Bamboo Glow
In a misted mountain valley where cedar groves met lush bamboo thickets, an elderly forester named Kenji worked each morning with sickle and saw. One crisp autumn morning, a hollow green stalk shone with pale, phosphorescent light among the shadowed roots.
Prying back the fibrous green sheath, Kenji found a tiny child resting peacefully upon a bed of dew-soaked petals. He carried her home to his thatched cottage, naming her Kaguya, and raised her with great tenderness as his own beloved daughter.

Kaguya grew with astonishing grace and swiftness, cultivating sweet squash, harvesting plums, and weaving reed baskets for the valley elders. But as the eighth lunar month approached, she spent her evenings gazing at the starry night sky with quiet longing.
Beneath the cottage eaves, she unrolled an ancient star map for her father. 'My true home lies in the celestial spheres,' she explained softly to Kenji. 'When the full harvest moon reaches its peak, the sky chariots will return to guide me back to the stars.'

On the night of the mid-autumn festival, a warm lunar radiance descended gently from the clouds, accompanied by the sweet chiming of celestial silver bells that filled the mountain valley with light.
Kaguya knelt before Kenji, draping a feather-soft mantle of luminous moon-silk over his shoulders to keep him warm through all the cold winters to come, before rising peacefully into the starry starlight as the valley echoed with her parting blessings.
